Balestrand Ferry Port | Routes & Destinations 2026
About
Balestrand is a small village on the northern shore of the Sognefjord in Vestland county, western Norway, with a long history as a destination for travellers drawn to the fjord landscape. The village became a favourite summer retreat in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, attracting painters, writers and European royalty — Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany was a regular visitor and left a visible mark on the local architecture.
The ferry pier at Balestrand is a stop on the Sognefjord express boat service, connecting the village with Bergen, Flåm and other fjord communities. The village has a handful of hotels, a local history museum and easy access to the hillsides and viewpoints above the fjord. It remains a calm and genuinely scenic stop rather than a heavily developed tourist hub.
