Puttgarden Ferry Port | Routes & Destinations 2026

About

Puttgarden is a small port on the island of Fehmarn in Schleswig-Holstein, northeastern Germany, and one of the busiest ferry terminals on the Baltic in terms of crossing frequency. The Puttgarden–Rødby route to Denmark, operated by Scandlines, is one of the shortest Baltic crossings at around 45 minutes and runs throughout the day and night with high frequency. Fehmarn island is connected to the mainland by a road and rail bridge, making Puttgarden easy to reach from Hamburg, Lübeck and northern Germany. The port itself is compact and primarily a transit point rather than a destination — most passengers drive straight on and off the ferry without stopping in the town. A fixed link tunnel between Fehmarn and the Danish island of Lolland is under construction and expected to eventually change the character of this crossing.
