Route Overview
The Hanko–Nynäshamn ferry connects the southwestern tip of Finland with the port nearest to Stockholm, taking around 12 hours. Eckerö Line runs this service as a quieter alternative to the busier Helsinki corridor. Hanko's position at the very end of the Finnish peninsula gives departures a scenic quality from the outset, with archipelago islands visible for a good stretch of the journey. The route is popular with Finnish motorists heading to Sweden and tends to be calmer and less crowded than the main Finland–Sweden routes.
Operators & Schedule
The route is operated by Eckerö Line, known for competitive pricing and a more relaxed on-board atmosphere compared to the larger cruise ferry operators on the main Finland–Sweden corridors.
Onboard Services
On board there's a restaurant, café, a small duty-free shop, comfortable seating and cabin accommodation. The 12-hour crossing benefits from a cabin booking. The atmosphere is low-key and unhurried — a good place to sleep and eat a proper meal.
Hanko
Hanko (Swedish: Hangö) is Finland's southernmost town, set on a narrow peninsula jutting into the Baltic Sea. The ferry terminal is close to the centre of this small, quietly charming resort town, known for its wooden villas and unhurried atmosphere.
Nynashamn
Nynäshamn is a compact port town about 60 km south of Stockholm. A direct train reaches the capital in roughly an hour. The town is also the southern gateway to the Stockholm archipelago's outer islands.
